Date: Saturday, April 3, 2004, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Place: Roosevelt University, 430 S. Michigan, Chicago
Application Deadline: Postmarked no later than February 21, 2004
Eligibility: Students entering the competition may be in any grade level through High School Senior. Students who previously placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in Levels A, B, or C or 1st in Level D are not eligible to compete again in the same level; however, students who previously placed 2nd or 3rd in Level D may re-enter at the same level. Honorable Mention winners are not required to advance to the next level. A first place winner of other 2002 and 2003 MTNA piano contests is not eligible to compete.
Rules: Teachers should enroll students in the appropriate level, selecting ONE PIECE from the elective list to be performed IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIRED PIECE. Teachers may enroll no more than 10 students in this event, but there are no restrictions regarding level enrollment. Each student may enter only one level.
Recital: The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each level will be given the opportunity to perform in the Honors Recital. Certificates will be awarded to the Honorable Mentions at the recital. All students will receive ribbons for participation.
Fees: The entry fee for students of CAMTA member is $20 per student for all Levels. Teachers who are not members of CAMTA must pay a $10 per student application fee in addition to the $20 entry fee. NO REFUNDS are allowed. ALL PARTICIPATING TEACHERS are expected to help with the festival by monitoring or providing food. If it is impossible for you to physically be present on the contest date, then you will be charged a $5.00 fee to pay for monitors in your place.
Professor Emeritus Dmitry Paperno of DePaul University, a prominent and influential figure in the Chicago musical scene, will be turning 75 in 2004. CAMTA is honoring this milestone by including one of his original compositions in the required repertoire for the 2004 Roberta Savler Piano Contest.
